Abstract:

The document is the first "Requirement Specification" report that must be submitted by Sub- Project 5 (SP5) within the SANY Project. This deliverable is "D5.1.1.2 SP5 Requirements Specifications" with reference to Contract n° 033564.

This document only addresses the marine risks domain. Initially all work is concentrated on the quality of bathing water and related beach management issues. Another application has been considered which would result in improved tracking of ships in crowded sea-lanes and the forecasting of locations and times of high congestion. This is particularly important during periods of severe weather when visibility is restricted and at the same time effectiveness of vessel traffic management radars can be degraded. Ship collisions can have dramatic economic and social costs. This application is not developed in this document but may be considered in a later version.

Other application domains such as geo-hazards and air pollution are treated in other similar documents.
