Environmental Risk Management tools for water quality monitoring

Event summary:

The workshop in conjunction with Ocean Business 2009 event (http://www.oceanbusiness.com) will give an
overview of the state of the art in environmental risk management tools, sensors aimed for water quality monitoring, and meeting the information need for implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD).

Workshop objectives

  • Identify synergies between ongoing EU projects within environmental risk
    management

  • Identification of users’ requirements for applications of environmental information from in situ stations, buoys, aircraft and satellite sensors and modelling predictions for risk management

From GIS & Sensor Data to Web Maps (Training)

Event summary:

This hands-on training will cover the complete cartographic workflow for the Web:

  1. basic data access and symbolisation with the Quatum GIS;
  2. map service creation with "Publish to Web" plugin;
  3. advanced representation with cartographic rules;
  4. creating more expressive maps with cartographic rules defining patterns for spatial features, SVG point symbols, and diagrams;
  5. accessing and symbolizing sensor data with colour maps and contours

The training will take place at the Institute of Cartography, ETH Zurich
