SANY major steps and milestones

SANY is measured, as all EU projects too, on its outcomes and impacts. The following paragraphs are summarizing major milestones and achievements within the SANY project most of them public available.

Subproject Sensor Networks
After an intensive technology review, by nature the first major step respectively main achievement will be in m12 where the first version of the Sensor architecture specification is public available. Due to the spiral approach the project follows further versions will be available in m25 and m31. The same way the architectural related services will be specified and public available in m15, m21, m28 followed each by an implementation (demonstrator) in m17, m22 and m30.

Subproject Decission Support and Sensor Fusion
A central achievement during the project will be the public available Architectural Design document (m16) based on the report on technology review (m5) as well as on the technical specification (m8). A generic data fusion and modelling engine encompassing fusion of data at sensor, temporal, spatio-temporal and system level, is expected to be available in its first version at m12.

Subprojects Air Pollution Risks/ Marine Risks / Geo-Hazards (- Pilots)
Each pilot specifies its requirements and makes a preliminary version of them public available at m8. Based thereof the pilot specifications are developed and published in m20.
The specification phase is followed by a baseline implementation (modules) and a refined application pilot implemented in m24. All three domain pilots follow the same specification and implementation time lines.

All SANY sub projects are connected trough project-wide “consolidation phases”, with major milestones set at the end of each consolidation phase (plus one at the project end). This results in six milestones spanning the main results of different sub projects:

Milestone M1: Consolidated requirements, m9
Deliverables: Consolidated results of technology review and requirements of all sub projects.
Rationale: Pre-requisite for starting the work on specifications and implementation.

Milestone M2: Baseline implementation and first revision of sensor architecture, m13
Deliverables: First version of the sensor architecture specifications and first realization of the validation SP applications based on existing technology.
Rationale: Reality check for the requirements.

Milestone M3: First sensor architecture and DSS implementation, m21
Deliverables: First version of SANY architecture and services.
Rationale: Pre-requisite for first revision of the validation SP’s applications.

Milestone M4: First validation and second sensor architecture implementation, m26
Deliverables: First version of the validation applications based on SANY technology; improved sensor services.
Rationale: Reality check for the first version of the SANY architecture and services.

Milestone M5: Final revisions of sensor services and DSS, m32
Deliverables: Final sensor and DSS services implementations.
Rationale: Pre-requisite for the second version of the validation applications.

Milestone M6: Second validation and demonstration; final report (m36)
Deliverables: Final validation applications (implemented, tested and demonstrated); final project report.
Rationale: Final validation, demonstration and report on project achievements.
